Mention of Bob reminds me of a story he told from Nigeria. In a village, the drums were played whenever there was a gathering. Sometimes during the proceedings, laughter would break out. This was because the drummer had made a wise-crack with the drum. As the people spoke talking-drum, they got the joke, but of course white man Bob didn't.
