Staff at The National Bank in all locations will be doing their bit to help the Cancer Society on Daffodil Day on Friday August 29.
The Bank has been involved with Daffodil Day as the Principal Sponsor since its inception in 1990. A lot of the initial fundraising activities are now celebrating their 10th anniversaries. Included in this special category is the Bank's Kaitaia branch Baby Photo Contest. The $97,000 raised from this activity over the past nine years is channelled back into the local community. As are all funds raised for Daffodil Day.
David Huxford, Sponsorship Manager for The National Bank says that the fundraising spirit is still truly evident within the Bank. "On Daffodil Day, National Bank staff will be out in force raising funds for cancer research, education and prevention. The initiatives for fundraising keep on going from strength to strength each successive year", says Mr Huxford.
A sample of the activities planned by the Bank this year include a Daffodil Day Ball, a Talent Show, an enormous quiz evening and, of course, the ever popular sausage sizzle. Quality Bakers are helping out by providing 1000 loaves of Molenberg bread for the sausage sizzles.
"Some branches started their preparations as early as January this year" says Mr Huxford. "The Daffodil Day sponsorship works like a well oiled machine. We have five regional co-ordinators who in turn liaise with a Daffodil Day co-ordinator in each branch. This structure ensures that everyone is informed and ideas are shared".
One in three New Zealanders are in some way affected by cancer at some stage during their lives. The funds raised by staff at The National Bank have provided the Cancer Society with the resources to help find a cure for cancer. The encouraging news is that more and more New Zealanders are fighting and winning their battle with cancer, thanks to advances in treatment.
