08:05 am: More like an English winter than a Kiwi summer
Despite my best efforts, I couldn't get to work yesterday. No trains, the subway to the platform flooded anyway, lakes where there used to be roads, gentle streams transformed into raging torrents. We kept power all the time, though lots of the Hutt Valley didn't. We are all safe and setting about our normal business today. The trains are running, pretty much everything back to normal. Estimates of the total cost of repair around $50m or US$35m.
