Less is more

We timed the speech for oratory last night and were aghast to find it was nearly a minute too long. So we chopped off the first paragraph! This isn't as bad as it sounds, and in fact has some advantages. We both acknowledged that the speech started slowly, but now it starts straight off with the bit about Florida, which is a much starker opening imho. We'll see. Come to Parmy next weekend and see how he gets on. I have high hopes. Another advantage of just dropping para 1 is that links still work.

Before, during, after

The day got off to an uneven start with the evaluation contest. After that, a morning of normality followed by a phenomenal attendance at a Computer Society lunch on the structure and governance of the New Zealand internet or .nz as we know it. Afternoon came and went, and a drizzly evening is ahead. That is all.

New and outstanding

Saw a promo poster earlier: It's new and it's outstanding. Don't know what the product was. my first thought was that they should have sent his invoice sooner. I've been in Credit Risk Management too long.

Expensive Matthew

Matthew's French language pen friend started like that, though the teacher did correct it. Another gem: we don't carry school uniforms you like. Or, we don't wear school uniforms like you. No, it's not fair, but it's fun. Still, M is not so much better. We remember asking him to count to ten: un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, (long pause), sieben? The timing was brilliant, the humour totally accidental. I think he's a little better at French now. C'est tout.
