An unfulfilled dream

When I lived in Birmingham, there was a man in our department who, every Monday lunchtime, would sit down with us at the canteen and say "so what did you do on the weekend" unless a pea fell off his plate, when it would be "oh, I've just pea-ed on the table". In those days, air timetables, a longtime interest of mine, suggested that without leaving early on Friday, I could go to the airport, fly to London, pick up the Air NZ flight to Auckland via Los Angeles, then fly with Thai to Bangkok and on...

Dream continued

to London before catching an early flight home in time for work on Monday morning. So when he asked the inevitable question, I could say "I flew round the world. How about you?" But I never did it, because GBP2000 was too much to pay for a one-liner, especially as I couldn't be absolutely sure of getting the feed line. Exercise for the reader: Can I leave an office in WLG at 5pm on Friday, fly round the world and be back by 8.30am on Monday?
