This morning

This morning is yet and gloomy, which suits our mood, with a dead cat. This has not been a happy time, but the absence of a cat is not what is making the house feel empty. Meanwhile, for the first time in many years, we have no interest bearing debt except a mortgage, and even that will disappear soon. The future looks bright again, though the brightness depends for a large part on finding paid employment reasonably soon. Thirty remaining days of paid leave remove urgency from it, but I certainly don't want to use up everything now. Come 2009, a policy I took out for 25 years will mature. It seemed a very long time in the future then, when 1999, 2000 and 2001 were the dates of choice for drama set in the future. But now it seems just around the corner. Less than 4 years!
