Friday was a fairly quiet day too. After a slow start, I went off to sign my name, something I hadn't been able to do the day before, and then we ent on to see King Kong at the local moving picture house. M and C chose popcorn, I, V and D chose ice cream.
King Kong is far too long and far too self-indulgent for PJ. He tries to cover too many themes, and uses ideas from Jurassic Park, Lord of the Rings, Titanic, Eight-legged Freaks, The Prisoner and many others. The action scenes might well have been essential, but they were too long. Peter Jackson needed the firm hand of an editor, and such was not in evidence. I'm hold that the unedited exceeded 4 or 5 hours. I think it needed to be trimmed down to less than 2 rather than just over 3. I have no problem with a director's cut version being issued later, but there's too much of it there now. The start was very slow moving, too. About an hour passes before the gorilla makes his appearance. It's a good movie, but it's not great. Less would undoubtedly have been more.
Then it was raining, and we went to Asda to buy some essentials for the season. The evening drifted, I'm afraid, as we watched the TV programme on the ten most signficant events of the past 60 years. 9-11 came second. I can't believe that the discovery of the structure of DNA got the #1 position in a public vote.
Lunch was very light, being popcorn or ice cream, but for evening-meal we had a curry bought from Asda. Later on, there was coffee, followed by more coffee, followed by bedtime.
This morning, it's mostly been tidying up and getting ready. A happy Christmas to you all. I really need to start helping the tidying and getting ready effort.
