New Year's Eve

Some years ago, I was talking to someone and he said he never went to New Year's Eve parties because there was so much argument, fighting and drunken behaviour, he could well do without them.
And I thought about it, and realised he was absolutely right. Haven't been to a New Year's Eve party or event since.
So instead, we're staying at home listening to the fireworks. We've just finished a game of Age of Mythology...Matthew won it (again) and then, as it was too late to watch another episode of Inspector Morse, we got some coffee and phoned takahe to wish her a happy new year. Viv is talking now, something about pictures in front of the Christmas tree, as the year ticks away and 2006 gets ready. This also marks four years of LJ for me, as I started at the very beginning of 2002.
Since then, my LJ has recorded the deaths of both my parents and my father-in-law, a number of international trips and our return from New Zealand to England in 2005. Four very exciting years, and perhaps now a time for introspection. By now, I think I can handle whatever life can throw at me, but I'm not one to tempt fate by standing up and shouting about it.
Employment and direction: those are my hopes for the next year.
