11:49 pm: Earthquake in England, not many dead
Let me get this straight. A 4.3 is big news. Yes, I know there aren't many earthquakes in England, but really...

At http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richter_magnitude_scale we can read:
Light:4.0-4.9:Noticeable shaking of indoor items, rattling noises. Significant damage unlikely.:6,200 per year (est.)

And at http://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes/recent_quakes.html we can see that NZ has had three of these so far this month, pretty much without comment.

Yet the British media and public has gone into overdrive:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/04/28/nkent128.xml
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6602677.stm
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2007190674,00.html

I suppose we should credit the NZ media with not telling people that the Poms should get over it.
They fail to pass any comment at http://stuff.co.nz/4042233a12.html - which is probably just as well.

Goodnight.

It does depend where the earthquake is. In Telford, they happen more often and get reported less.
